In Romans 8:28b, Paul refers to those “who have been called.” Pastor Rick focuses this first message on the word “call” – teaching eight things we need to know about God’s calling on our lives.

To understand our purpose in life, we must begin with God’s nature. God is love, and everything was created as an object of his love. Pastor Rick uses Ephesians 1:4-5 as his text, teaching that our first purpose in life is to be loved by God. He also shows us the changes that can happen in our lives if we stay aware of God’s constant love for us.

Pastor Rick looks at the second calling, or purpose, of life – God formed us for his family! We’ve been called to belong. He shares the five benefits of belonging, which meet our five deepest needs, by looking at five metaphors from the Bible.

The third calling of our lives is To Become. Pastor Rick calls this the Marathon to Maturity, because the Bible compares becoming to running a race. He uses Hebrews 12 as his text, teaching eight principles that will help us to run this race well and become the person that God made us to be.

Pastor Rick teaches the fourth calling on our lives which is to serve him. God has called us to be ministers of Jesus and Pastor Rick teaches us what will happen if we use our lives to serve and bless others unselfishly. He uses this message to encourage the church family to find a ministry and hosts a ministry fair to expose them to the ministries available at Saddleback.

In the conclusion of the Live Your Calling series, Pastor Rick teaches the fifth calling in life – we’re called to bring others into God’s family, using Romans 10:13-15 as his text. He talks about the PEACE Plan – Jesus’ model for missions, and helps us to know what God wants us to do in light of what we’ve learned through the What On Earth Am I Here For book and small group study.
